Travel from Johannesburg to Nairobi on this exciting camping tour and visit the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Enjoy game viewing and visit different National Parks. You will also visit Victoria Falls, Luangwa National Park, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater and you can choose to participate in different activities available on this tour.

Itinerary

Day 1 Botswana - Palapye You depart Johannesburg heading north to Botswana to cross the border and spend your first night in Palapye, located on the banks of the Lotsane River. Meals: Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Camp Itumela Day 2 Khama Rhino Sanctuary - Maun The Khama Rhino Sanctuary is a community based wildlife project, established in 1992 to assist in saving the vanishing rhino. This morning you go on a guided game drive through the Sanctuary before departing for Maun. Upon arrival in Maun, you will prepare for the Okavango Delta. Optional Activities: Crocodile farm visit, scenic flight over Okavango (time permitting) Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Delta Rain, Sitatunga Day 3/4 Okavango Delta During your time in the Delta you enjoy the best nature has to offer. You go on nature walks and if possible will explore the Delta by mokoro. The Delta is the worlds largest inland delta. You travel into the Delta on a large 4x4 vehicle - in high water season boats will be used. You join up with some of the local people and set up your bush camp for the next 2 days. Please Note: if you have not purchased the Activity Package you will stay at the campsite in Maun for the following 2 days. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Bush Camping Day 5 Gweta You leave the Delta behind you and travel east to Planet Baobab which is located halfway between Maun and Nata, near the Makgadikgadi Pans. You can explore the bush around your campsite and view some of the oldest Baobab trees in the area. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Planet Baobab Day 6 Kasane - Chobe National Park Today you head north to Kasane, on the banks of the Chobe River. The afternoon is spent game viewing on a river cruise, into the renowned Chobe NP. This is an excellent opportunity to view some of Africa's spectacular wildlife. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Thebe River Safaris Lodge Day 7/8 Zimbabwe - Victoria Falls On arrival in Victoria Falls, you have time to plan the next days adventure activities before you visit the spectacular Victoria Falls and experience the thundering of the mighty Zambezi as it drops over 100m into the gorge below. Most people will spend the next day White Water Rafting, a not-to-be-missed experience of a lifetime! Optional Activities: Chobe National Park Early Morning Game Drive (day 7 only), Zambezi Sunset Cruise, Full day white water rafting, Flight over the falls, Full day low/high water river boarding, bungee jump (solo), morning/afternoon lion or elephant encounter. Meals: 2 x Breakfast, Lunch (Day 7 only) Overnight: Elephant Hills Hotel Day 9 Lusaka Leaving behind the natural wonder of Victoria Falls you continue your expedition. After Livingstone you journey towards the bustling Zambian capital of Lusaka. You will notice the vegetation becoming sub-tropical and the roads a little rougher. Meals: Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Eureka Camp Day 10 Chipata Today is a long drive through lush country, crossing rivers en-route to Chipata, the gateway to the South Luangwa NP. Zambia is truly African and an adjustment from the more Western ways of Southern Africa. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Mama Rulas Day 11 South Luangwa National Park Early in the morning you drive from Chipata to the border of the South Luangwa National Park where you spend the next two nights right on the banks of the Luangwa River. You can often see hippos and other animals from the camp bar. This afternoon you enjoy a sunset game drive in the South Luangwa NP. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Wildlife Camp Day 12 South Luangwa National Park In the morning you have the opportunity to take another game drive. The park is known for its high concentration of leopards and hippos. After lunch you visit the community run tribal textile project and a local village. Optional Activities: Morning Game Drive, Game Walk inside park. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Wildlife Camp Day 13 Lilongwe Today you visit the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, Malawi's only sanctuary for rescued, orphaned and injured wild animals. The Centre is set in 180 hectares of beautiful woodland, Lilongwe's only protected wilderness. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Barefoot Lodge Day 14/15 Kande Beach This morning you have the opportunity to participate in a 2 hour city tour, before you take a scenic drive to Kande beach. You will spend the next 2 days enjoying the many optional activities available, such as horse riding and different water sports. You will go on a guided village walk in order to meet the local people and learn more about Malawian life. Optional Activities: Lilongwe city tour, Scuba diving, snorkeling etc. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Kande Beach Day 16 Lake Malawi - Chitimba You travel further north and spend your last day in Malawi at Chitimba beach. Set on a golden sandy beach amongst banana palms and papaya trees, your accommodation for the night is surrounded by the famous Livingstonia and Nyika mountains. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Chitimba Day 17 Tanzania - Iringa Today you leave Malawi and enter Tanzania. You ascend out of the Great Rift Valley through some spectacular mountain passes, passing vast tea plantations in the highlands before arriving at your camp outside Iringa. This evening your dinner is in a local Masai restaurant where you enjoy a traditional Tanzanian evening. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Kisolanza Farm Day 18 Mikumi You leave Iringa today and head north to the Mikumi National Park. Mikumi is home to lion, zebra, wildebeest, impala, buffalo and elephant. Here you have the opportunity to enjoy an optional afternoon game drive through the park. Optional Activities: Afternoon game drive in Mikumi NP. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Tan-Swiss Lodge Day 19 Dar es Salaam Your journey today brings you out of the cool highland region to the humid Indian ocean coastal city of Dar es Salaam. Meaning house of peace in Arabic, Dar es Salaam is the economic and trade capital of Tanzania, but inland Dodoma remains the official capital city. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Kipepeo Camp Day 20/21/22 Zanzibar A local ferry will take you from Dar es Salaam (where you leave the truck) to Zanzibar. You take a transfer to the northern part of the island where you will spend your time relaxing on the beach. On the 3rd day, you head south to Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, where you will spend the night. Here you have time exploring the historical and unique architecture. There are also spice and seafood markets to be explored. Optional Activities: Lunch and Dinner, Motorbike hire, Spice tour, Walking city tour, Swimming with Dolphins, Scuba Diving, Snorkeling etc. Please Note: If you have not purchased the Activity Package you will stay at the campsite in Dar es Salaam for the following 3 days. Meals: Breakfast x 3 Overnight: Nungwi Beach - Nungwi Inn x2 Stone Town - Shangani Hotel x1 Day 23 Lushoto Today you leave Zanzibar and catch a ferry back to Dar es Salaam and return to your truck. You continue on to Lushoto, the major town and district centre, albeit small, in the Usambara Mountains, halfway between the coast and the parks. The popular pot plant Saintpaulia has its only wild occurrences in Tanzania, and particularly in the Usambara Mountains. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Overnight: The Lawns Hotel Day 24 Karatu Today you take a scenic drive via Arusha to the picturesque town of Karatu. The areas cool climate, verdant hills, and pleasing views made it popular with settlers and farmers. Vast and extensive fields cover the slopes of the volcano and the lands around Karatu town. Karatu is also a stones throw away from the world famous Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Kudu Camp Day 25/26/27 Serengeti and Ngorongoro Excursion These 4 days are set aside for the 3-night camping excursion into the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. This area has one of the most densely inhabited large animal populations in Africa. On the first day from Karatu to Ngorongoro, there will be time for visiting the Oldupai gorge and museum. The Serengeti excursion is in open topped 4x4 safari vehicles in order to tackle the challenging side roads in the parks. For those not going to the parks, take this chance to absorb some of the fascinating local culture. Optional Activities for those not doing the Serengeti Excursion: Various Serengeti & Ngorongoro Excursion packages, Lake Manyara game drives, day hiking and village tours and many more various day trips. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Seronera and Simba Campsites Day 28 Arusha Today the group meets up again and you have the chance to exchange stories of the various adventures that you participated in over the past few days. In the afternoon you visit the local Masai Mara Museum and Snake Park in Arusha. Optional Activities: camel ride to local Masaai village. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Ndoro Lodge Day 29 Kenya - Nairobi After crossing the border into Kenya you continue to travel towards Nairobi and the end of your journey. Usually you end the tour with a group meal out at one of Nairobi's excellent restaurants. Optional Activities: Dinner out. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
