Camp Jabulani

Built along the bank of a seasonal stream, Camp Jabulani is the perfect location for those looking for a remote and private safari experience. The sole objective of the team of professionally skilled staff is to meet the needs of their valued guests and most importantly to share with guests the story and experience of the elephants. The open-plan dining room and lounge merge with the wooden deck which lies in the shade of gigantic Leadwood trees, around which the main facility was constructed. An impressive suspension bridge connects the living areas with the Suites, which lie scattered beyond the river bed.

Covering approximately 13 000 hectares of prime big game territory, Kapama Game Reserve has succeeded in combining the wilderness of the bush with the comforts of five-star hospitality and facilities. The reserve supports a wide variety of wildlife including elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and large populations of giraffe, impala, blue wildebeest and kudu. Predators include lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena and many smaller species. Bird-watching is most rewarding and more than 350 bird species have been recorded on the Reserve. Game viewing during the hot summer months (October to April) is more comfortable in the early mornings and late afternoon when it is cooler. Late afternoon rain showers are not uncommon. Camp Jabulani vehicles depart into the reserve each day, and in the company of the experienced rangers, visitors are transported on safari into a wild natural world where animals take precedence and humans are just observers.

Camp Jabulani Amenities

Each of the six Luxury Suites at Camp Jabulani is remote and private. Tucked within the dense foliage along a dry river bed, each safari suite is an oasis of opulent serenity. Massive wooden sliding doors open to interiors which are a pure translation of style, comfort, elegance and an understated appreciation of the natural environment. Pure cotton sheets, massive stone tubs, an outdoor glass-enclosed shower, a fire-place with a separate lounge area, and a private plunge pool complement each of the rooms. Suites are also equipped with a mini-bar, safe, hairdryer, electric blankets, 24 hour temperature control and a ceiling fan. Expansive windows allow for uninterrupted sunshine and views of the surrounding bush. In the evenings, cosy lighting and a welcoming bed draw to a perfect close another day in Africa.

The Zindoga Villa is a completely self-contained facility – this mammoth Villa is 424sqm, with an additional 225sqm of wooden decking overlooking the wild African bush. Two individual suites are connected by a joint lounge and dining area . Each suite has an open plan bathroom, glass-enclosed shower, fire place and separate lounge, private plunge pool. A central lounge, dining room and butler’s kitchen join the two suites, as well as an outdoor deck area overlooking the dry river bed, Wi-Fi access. One of the Suites also has an adjoining twin room, with private bathroom for 2 children sharing. The Villa can accommodate a maximum of 9 guests at any given time. The Villa is serviced by its own dedicated team – including ranger (and private vehicle), chef and butler. Children 12 and over are welcome at Camp Jabulani. Those under the age of 12 years may only be accommodated at the Zindoga Villa.

Area Attractions

Nothing quite tops the first introduction to the Camp Jabulani elephants – their sheer size and extraordinary present is humbling. Share in the ultimate African experience, view tree tops, birds’ nests and giraffes almost face to face. Sail high above the bushveld and feel part of the environment on an Elephant back safari. Each participant is partnered with an elephant based on temperament. Guests mount their elephant via a specially constructed ramp. Saddles have been designed with comfort in mind – for both the elephants and riders. Made of high density foam (ensuring a light weight), they are built up laterally, and have both handles and stirrups. Atop their mighty spines, guests soon become lulled by the gentle “side to side” rocking motion as the elephants move in single file (with Jabulani in the lead). A peaceful silence reigns, and a subtle harmonious communication with the bush and its inhabitants. Afternoon safaris are conducted just before the sun sets. The elephants ultimately converge on the romantic setting of lanterns, a white linen table adorned with a selection of beverages, crystal glasses, fresh flowers and delectable canapés specially prepared by the chef.

Camp Jabulani offers an extraordinary night safari on elephant back. Under the stars amidst the night sounds and dwellers, each guest is able to create their own experience as the sole proprietors of potent battery-powered spotlights. They may choose between swaying through the inky dark; finding millions of glittering eyes in the surrounding bush; or observing the planetarium-like splendour of the milky-way above. Guests have the opportunity of “tucking” the elephants into their stables for the evening ahead, and of witnessing firsthand the mutual respect and genuine fondness between the elephants and their tenders One thing is certain – one cannot help but be changed forever after sharing an experience with the Camp Jabulani elephants.
