Mbweni Ruins is located on the West Coast, just 6 km from Zanzibars International Airport, Stone Town and the Harbour at a mere 10 minute drive an ideal destination for those wishing to be away from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town, yet close enough to visit at any time. Mbweni Ruins is set in beautifully tended and extensive well kept gardens on a small, private beach backing to the ruins of an old convent, that was the former haven of freed slaves.
Mbweni Ruins now boasts a Botanic Garden, that was conceived in 1991 and is now established as one of the most beautiful in the island with over 650 plant species. Alongside this Mbweni Ruins offers its guests a lovely waterfront with sun loungers, deck chairs, shades, tables and chairs. Just off the sandy beach is a small, well maintained swimming pool, that along with the sea at high tide, provides the perfect spot for swimming and enjoying the magnificent sunsets that may be viewed from here, reported to be the best in Zanzibar.
Over the years Mbweni Ruins have striven to provide a personal and discreet service in one of the most beautiful natural and historic situations in Zanzibar and if you are looking for a quiet retreat to just relax or a good point to explore the Island of Zanzibar and its surroundings then Mbweni Ruins is the perfect place
