The Mkuze Falls Big Five Private Game Reserve is beautifully situated in the heart of historic Zululand in the South African province of KwaZulu Natal. The reserve is located on land that once formed part of the 'Boer Republic', created when the pioneer leader, Piet Retief, bought the land from Dingaan, half brother of the great Zulu-king Shaka. Mkuze Falls Lodge consists of nine thatched chalets and a central lodge complex that is all built on raised wooden platforms and provide stunning views of the falls or the perennial Mkuze River and the hills beyond.
The Mkuze Falls Game Reserve is a haven to the African 'Big Five': Lion, Elephant, white and black Rhino, Cape Buffalo and Leopard. Cheetah, Hippo, Crocodile, spotted Hyena, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebra and numerous species of antelope are also resident in the reserve. The elusive Nyala occurs in greater numbers here, than anywhere else in the world.

CHILDREN POLICY:
Children of all ages are welcome at Mkuze Falls Game Reserve. Due to safety reasons, children younger than 6 years are unfortunately not permitted on the daily game drives.
The Safari Tents and Luxury Chalets can accommodate 1 child under 12 years sharing.
The Safari Suite can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children under 12 years sharing.
A non-refundable 20% deposit is required to confirm any reservation. Full payment of the balance is due 30 days prior to guests arrival, unless the booking is made within 30 days of travel, in which case full payment is required to confirm the reservation.

The rangers took us into encounters with the wild that we had never experienced. In amongst lion as they lay around, touched on the head by elephant trunk. We really had an extraordinary experience here. The chalets and service were tops. This is our second visit. It will not be out=r last.
