We depart Cape Town heading north for the spectacular Cederberg mountain region. On this first afternoon we spend some time learning about tour- life, the vehicle and equipment. The Cederberg mountain region has a rich plant life, including rarities such as the snow protea and the Cederberg or rocket pinchion.

Itinerary

Day 1: South Africa - Cederberg Mountain Region We depart Cape Town heading north for the spectacular Cederberg mountain region. On this first afternoon we spend some time learning about tour- life, the vehicle and equipment. The Cederberg mountain region has a rich plant life, including rarities such as the snow protea and the Cederberg or rocket pinchion. Day 2 : Namibia - Namaqualand - Orange / Gariep River We travel north through Namaqualand and head for the Orange / Gariep river. The night is spend sitting around the campfire getting to know one another. Day 3: Orange / Gariep River - Ai-Ais In the morning we have the opportunity to experience the Orange / Gariep River by canoe. Choose between a relaxing morning on the riverbank or the half day canoe adventure. After lunch we travel north to the Ai - Ais Hot Springs. Optional Activities: Half - Day Canoe Adventure. Day 4: Fish River Canyon - Kokerboom forest After an early breakfest our journey takes us to the mighty Fish River Canyon. The Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world. It is approx 161 km long, 27 km wide at its widest point and 550 km deep. It is the oldest Canyon in the world. After visiting the canyon we travel further inland to the Kalahari area of Namibia. On the way we will visit the Kokerboom forest. Day 5: Bushman community - Namib Naukluft Park This morning those who wish spend some time with the !Kung tribe will have the chance to do so. This activity is a local community project and all fees are payable directly to the community. Later we drive west towards the massive dunes of Sossusvlei. Optional Activities: !Kung african tribal interaction Day 6: Namib - Naukluft National Park Taking advantage of the cooler temperatures we depart at dawn and drive into the Namib Naukluft National Park where we will hike up Dune 45 to gain a different perspective of the desert. After this you have the option of a guided hike with fellow group members into Sossusvlei. Optional Activities: guided walk with local expert Day 7: Swakopmund A dramatic drive through the arid Namib - Naukluft, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn sees us arrive at Walvis bay. We stop to view the flamingos befor we head towards the seaside resort town in Swakopmund. Here we will be briefed on the many optional activities available for the following day. Tonight dinner is not included in Swakopmund. The group usually goes out for a dinner at a local restaurant - the guides can book this in advance. After the meal you can go out to one of the local clubs. If you do, one of the guides will go with you. Day 8: Swakopmund This day is left free for each individual to pursue their own interests including many adventure activities. Optional Activities: Quadbiking, Sandboarding, Sky diving, Scenic Flights, Fishing... Day 9: Himba tribe Heading inland again we drive north towards Kamanjab where we will meet with some of the local people of the area. The Himba are easily recognizable by their unique style of dress. Encounting a totally different way of life is a moving experinece for many people. Day 10/11: Etosha National Park An early rise sees us on our way to Etosha National Park and some of the most unique game viewing experiences in Africa. We spend our days visiting the abundand water holes for some excellent game photography. After our eavening meal we relax at some of the finest floodlit waterholes in the world. Occasionally it is not possible to stay inside the park at night, in which case we overnight at a local guest farm. Day 12: Windhoek After an early morning game drive we set off for Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. On the way we will stop at a local craft market for some shopping. Optional Activities: Dinner at Joe's Beer House. Day 13: Bushman Tribe Leaving Windhoek behind us we head towards the Botswana border. Here we have the opportunity to interact with the local Bushman community as well as other activities. Optional activities: Bushman Walk Day 14/15/16: Botswana - Okavango Delta We cross the border into Botswana and, after arriving in Maun, we board small planes that transport us over the Delta to our destination. The flight is both practical and scenic. During our three days in the Delta we will go on a nature walk and a mokoro ride with the local people, which will be an unforgettable experience. The Okavango Delta is in addition one of the world's largest inland water systems. Day 17: Namibia – Caprivi National Park We travel through the Caprivi National Park en route to our destination next to the Zambezi River, We spend the night relaxing next to this mighty river. Day 18: Botswana / Kasane / Chobe National Park This afternoon is spent on boat cruise on the Chobe River watching the game come down to the riverbanks to drink. Viewing game from a boat is one of the most successful ways to see the animals in their own environment. This park is on the banks of the Chobe River and covers an area of 11 000 sq km. It has Botswana's most varied wildlife and in addition the park is also known for its lion population. Optional Activities: Chobe Game Drive Day 19: Zimbabwe - Victoria Falls Arriving early at out final destination, we head off to visit the spectacular Victoria Falls and experience the thundering sound of the mighty Zambezi. The popular sunset cruise includes dinner and drinks. Optional Activities: Zambezi sunset cruise Day 20: Victoria Falls Most people will spend the day white water rafting a non-to-be-missed experinence of a lifetime! Victoria Falls offers many exciting alternatives. Optional Activities: White Water Rafting, Bungee jump, Elephant excursion Day 21: Victoria Falls to Martinsdrift Departure is at 6 am from Savanna Lodge. If you would like to avoid Zimbabwe you can arrange a transfer to Kasane where you will be collected at about 7.30 am. It is a long and uneventful drive through Botswana to the border at Martinsdrift where we will spend the night. Day 22: Martinsdrift to Johannesburg Another 6 am departure will ensure that we cover the next 450 - 550 km and get to Johannesburg as early as possible. Day 23: South Africa – Panorama Route Leaving behind Johannesburg, the city of gold, we head through the province of Mpumalanga and some breathtaking vistas of the Lowveld. Blyde River Canyon, God's window and Bourke's Luck Potholes will be some of today's highlights. We will spend the evening just outside of Kruger National Park. Day 24/25: Kruger National Park We get up early and visit a wildlife rehabilitation center for an educational experience before we enter Kruger National Park. The next two days are spent exploring the southern part of this vast reserve and we stand a good chance of sighting Africa's famed big five (elephant, lion, rhino, leopards and buffalo). An optional night drive with one of the South African National Park (SANP) rangers is an excellent way to see some of the nocturnal animals. Optional Activities: SANP Night Drive or Dawn game walk Day 26/27: Swaziland - Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary Today we leave the Kruger National Park and cross the border into Swaziland. We spend the next two nights in the Mililwane Nature Reserve where we are able to explore the area on foot. We will also experience the wonderful Swazi culture first hand by visiting a traditional village. Optional Activities: Mountain biking, hiking, horse riding and Game viewing. Day 28: South Africa - the grater St. Lucia Wetland Park Leaving Swaziland, we travel through a subtropical region towards the Indian Ocean. We spend the afternoon exploring the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park and enjoying the unique sights. The fallowing day we journey down the coast to Durban. Optional Activities: Lagoon Cruise in St. Lucia Day 29: Durban We will spend the night in this vibrant city. It is a great option to go out this evening to try one of Durban's famous Indian restaurants. Optional Activities: Dinner and night out in Durban Day 30/31: Drakensberg We leave Durban and Kwa Zulu Natal coast and travel to the Royal Natal National Park and the mighty Drakensberg escarpment. The next day is spent at leisure. You can choose any of the local activities and view the spectacular surroundings. Optional Activities: Horse riding, Hiking Day 32/33: Lesotho After a long but scenic drive we arrive in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. When border formalities are completed we ascend into the mountains to our rustic overnight spot. The next day we get up early and those going on the Pony trek will ride into the remote hills of Lesotho accompained by local guides. If you choose to remain behind you can simply relax or visit the local village, school or craft market. Optional Activities: Pony trekking excursion, Hiking, Village and school visit. Day 34/35: South Africa - Coffee Bay We exit Lesotho and head to Coffee Bay. We arrive at this beautiful location where we will spend the next two nights. We have a full day to relax on the beach or go on a hike to the famous "Hole in the wall" Optioanl Activities: Xhosa Village Visit, Hiking Day 36: Addo Elephant National Park This journey continues further East into the Eastern Cape Province where we spend our time in Addo Elephant National Park. Game driving in the Park allows us good opportunity to take some wonderful photos. Day 37/38: Tsitsikamma National Park After an early morinig game drive we bid farewell to the elephants and drive further along the Sunshine coast until we reach Tsitsikamma National Park. This beautiful coastal park provides us with some amazing hikes, including the first section of the well-known Otter Trail. Optional Activities: Bungee jumping (highest in the world), Treetop tour, Hiking Day 39: Knysna It is a short distance to Knysna and there are many activities on offer here as well as the chance to explore this interesting town. Go fishing on the lagoon, shopping in the town or abseil off the Knysna Heads - the choise is yours. Optional Activities: lagoon cruise Day 40: Oudtshoorn Today we travel on via the Outeniqua Mountains as we head for Outshoorn, where we take a tour of the Cango Caves. Later in the day you have the option of visiting on Ostrich Farm. Optional Activities: Ostrich Farm visit and Ostrich riding. Day 41: Stellenbosch Wein Route After breakfast we set off for Stellenbosch. As this is the last night on tour we will go out to a local restaurant for dinner. In whale season (between June and October), we spend the day in Hermanus where there is a possibility of encountering the world famous whales. Optional Activities: Meal Out Day 42: Cape Town - tour ends After a leisurely breakfast, we set off to do some wine tasting before reaching Cape Town. The journey ends on arrival at the Nomad Adventure Centre in central Cape Town.
