Situated atop a spur with almost 360 degree views, 15 km south of Tzaneen, the Coach House and Agatha Spa overlooks the truly spectacular peaks of the northern Drakensberg.
Eight Hectares of garden immediately surround the hotel. An eclectic collection of indigenous and exotic plants and trees have been assembled to provide one of the most interesting and well laid out hotel gardens in the country.
Below the hotel an indigenous aloe garden flows into orchards of macadamia trees. Linking onto one of the farm walks, a selection from one of South Africas best known clivia collection, The McNeil Collection, has been planted. This wild garden enchants a small stream canopied by grand indigenous trees.
Agatha enjoys a delightful climate all year round, and because of its location, the mercury never drops below 10a C even on a mild winters night. Summer temperatures in the day seldom exceed 30a C. Being in a summer rainfall area, from April to October is cool and very dry.
Agatha was originally established in 1888 as its altitude of 1100m ensures a malaria free environment.
Tzaneen Airstrip suitable for light fixed wing aircraft is 25 km away and helicopters may use the pad at S 23a5644 and E30a0871, which is 500 m from the Hotel.
The Coach House offers 41 comfortable well-appointed rooms, each with its own generous en suite bathroom and separate shower. There are 7 Suites and 25 Premier rooms with extra long king-size double or twin beds, and 9 Classic doubles with extra long queen-size double beds. All are fitted with Percale cotton sheets and mohair blankets.
All rooms have private verandas with mountain views. All Suites and Premier rooms have log burning fireplaces where you can snuggle up on a chilly winters night.
Rooms are stocked with spring water, fresh fruit and homemade biscuits daily.
Bathrooms have an extensive range of guest toiletries.
Room facilities include electronic safes, heated towel rails, minibars and satellite TV with 14 channels.
Fine dining is a daily occurrence at the Coach House!! Renowned for the finest breakfast in the country, there is no better place to enjoy this than on the verandah overlooking the pool.
The chef and his team specialize in preparing jolly good food! They use the freshest seasonal ingredients, most of which are sourced locally, like the Lunsklip River trout, Bonsmara beef , and sub-tropical fruits and nuts.
The Coach House is also renowned for its wine cellar which stores and impressive 8000 bottles comprising 200 local and imported wines to please every palate and pocket.
Vegetarian and special dietary requirements are easily taken care of.

Directions To Coach House And Agatha Spa
FROM GAUTENG
1. Take the N1 from Johannesburg to Polokwane (Pietersburg), bypassing Pretoria
2. 2 km after the Shell Ultra City and +/- 5km before Polokwane (Pietersburg) take the R71 to Tzaneen.
3. After 4.6 km you will reach a four way stop. After stopping go straight across.
4. A further 2,5km another four way stop. Straight across
5. 6,3 km further you will reach a third stop sign. Turn right and drive towards Tzaneen. You are still on the R71.
6. After 53 km you reach Haenertsburg. Carry on straight in the direction of Magoebaskloof on the R71.
7. After 30 km you will reach a T-junction. Turn right onto R36/R71 direction Tzaneen. Stay on this double highway for 3 km, over the Tzaneen Dam (Letaba River) (do not turn left to Tzaneen ) and pass under a flyover bridge, 1km from where is a stop sign
8. You will find a sign indicating Agatha and Coach House. Turn right and drive 14kms up into the hills.
9. You will reach a T junction. Turn left towards Letsitele Valley and proceed for 7 km to the Coach House which is on the right hand side of the road.
10. Total distance from Johannesburg (Wanderers) is about 414km.
