Hi there, Would just like to give some feedback on our stay in Maputo. We were only there for one night (having driven from Ponto do Oura, where we stayed for 4 nights). The Cardoso Hotel is really beautiful. The location is good, the breakfast was great and the staff were also friendly. We were two couples and unfortunately only one of us had a renovated room (which is really smart). I must say, though, that the other room, although not as nice as the new one, was still neat and clean and comfortable. I would like to say a special thank you for the letter that you guys sent me to use, in case I was pulled over by cops. It came in very handy. We were driving back from supper at Costa do Sol when we were pulled over. I was asked for all my papers (insurance, license etc), which I duly presented. When all this was in order, I think the cop was looking for another excuse to extract some cash from me and claimed that I was drinking and driving. To be totally honest, I did have one drink at supper, but I was definitely below the limit anyway. He insisted that I was drunk, and that he wanted to do a breathalyzer test (which I don’t think he even had). At that point, I made as if I was looking for some documents and handed him the letter you gave me. He presented the letter to another cop that was there with him, and I could see the guy pointing out the part (in Portuguese) about reporting any corruption. When he saw that, his attitude changed and after asking one or two more arb questions, he let us go. So thanks again. I definitely think that all tourists to the country should be given this letter, to eliminate unnecessary hassles. Regards, Kumaran Govender
