Lianshulu Lodge

DestinationNamibia
Lianshulu Lodge is one of the first private lodges to be built inside a Namibian National Park, namely Mudumu National Park in the Caprivi Strip.Lianshulu Lodge is located on the banks of the breathtaking Kwando River, one of the four mighty rivers feeding the Linyanti Swamps. This region is regarded as Namibia's own slice of the Okavango Delta. Here, in the heart of the Mudumu National Park, dry mixed woodlands stand in complete contrast to the beautiful Kwando wetland ecosystem. Lianshulu Lodge is discreetly placed beneath a canopy of shady jackalberry and mangosteen trees, accommodating guests in 9 twin-bedded rooms and 1 family room. Each room is individually styled and tastefully furnished, with en-suite bathroom and secluded veranda. The airy thatched dining, lounge and bar areas open onto spacious, split-level wooden decks, affording sweeping views over the Lianshulu Lagoon. Two fireplaces, scenic outlooks and a secluded swimming pool create idyllic places in which to relax and take in the tranquillity of the natural surroundings. Activities at Lianshulu Lodge include morning and sunset boat cruises and nature drives in the Mudumu National Park. An opportunity that cannot be missed is a visit to the Lizauli Traditional Village, a community tourism initiative that has recreated all the unique traditions and culture of the Namibian village. Visitors can learn to stamp a millet, discover ancient grain storage methods and transportation, see how blacksmiths hand-forge metal tools and knives, interact with the village traditional healer and experience traditional dancing.

Area Attractions

Caprivi Strip This narrow 450km sliver of land forms a strategic corridor - linking Namibia with Botswana, Angola and Zambia. It feels detached from the rest of the country, yet steeped in history. The deep Kalahari sands and tropical waterways found here are home to an interesting array of wildlife that differs widely to that of the rest of Namibia. Mudumu National Park Located on the eastern side of the Caprivi Strip to the north of the Linyanti Swamp ecosystem, Mudumu National Park covers 1000km². Proclaimed in 1990, its lifeline is the Kwando River which flows along its western border. Along the river there are extensive floodplains, floating papyrus swamps and lush riverine forest. Away from the river one finds mixed mopane and teak woodlands, open grasslands and typical African savannah. Mudumu National Park is known for its buffalo population, roan and sable antelope, red lechwe and the water-dependent sitatunga. Large elephant herds are known to move through the region. General mammal diversity is good: including lion, hippo, impala, Burchell's zebra, greater kudu and common waterbuck, reedbuck and bushbuck. The waterways here are home to spotted-necked otter, ferocious tigerfish, and several large Nile crocodile. The birdlife here is a big attraction, with over 400 species present in Mudumu National Park. Coppery-tailed Coucal, Slaty Egret, Greater Swamp Warbler, Swamp Boubou and Brown Firefinch are some of the resident species. In summer numbers are boosted by the tremendous amount of migratory species: including flocks of colourful Southern Carmine Bee-eater, Copper Sunbird, Pennant-winged Nightjar and Broad-tailed Paradise-Whydah.
