Manta Reef Lodge

DestinationPemba Island
Manta Reef Lodge lies at the North Westerntip of Pemba Island, looking straight across the Pemba Channel towards the Shimoni area of Kenya. Manta Reef is ideally located between a tropical rain forest, a 10 kilometre stretch of white sand beach and the gentle turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, in an elevated position on the island's northern most point, commanding stunning view across the Pemba Channel. Manta Reef Lodge offers a unique wilderness Zanzibar resort, set in an idyllic hideaway location (which is prefect as there is not another development within 50 kilometres), with a great beach and superb access to the dive sites of Njao. One of the best features of Manta Reef Lodge and that of Pemba Island is that there is an incredibly relaxed and easy going atmosphere throughout the whole area, providing you with a peaceful and care free holiday while being served by genuine smiles of the staff that remain loyal and proud to serve its visitors, to make you feel at home, in an informal, yet efficient atmosphere. Manta Reef Lodge was introduced in 1993, starting off as a simple camp site, and slowly progressing to what it is today, making this one of the characteristics that have managed Manta Reef to retain the raw flavor of the Pemba wilderness, and develop excellent relations with the local communities. Ongoing sustainable fishing and forestry projects in conjunction with the government and concerned parties has meant that the future looks excellent for the environmental health of the region, and they take pride in being part of that success. Pemba Island has remained a closely guarded secret with travelers "in the know" for over 10 years now, and at present Pemba Island is a tropical Eden, practically untouched by tourism and commerce. We went spent 4 nights at Manta for our Honeymoon and was amazed with everything about the place. It is very secluded, not crowded and relaxing. We arrived after doing a safari for 6 days and went to Zanzibar for two nights. We quickly realized we should have came straight to Manta after the Safari. We stayed in the Sea Front Villas which are very nice and luxurious. The service was spectacular and the food very tasty. The staff are very friendly and do an excellent job. What also was great about Manta is everything is included so you lock up your money and don't need it till you leave. We did some of the excursions but did not scuba dive. All in all we had a great experience and will return!

My family spent a wonderful 5 days at this low key resort in August. We felt bad for some of the other guests as our 5 and 9 year old were the only kids there. That being said, the hospitality was terrific. The food was simple, but delicious and nutritious...usually a choice of meat or fish. The service was always genuine and with a huge smile. I would recommend this to anyone looking to truly relax......Hakuna Matata, because within one day, I had lost track of time. That never happens.

If you are looking for a tropical paradise, fresh seafood and fine snorkeling, this is the place for you. The Manta Resort is not posh, but simply lovely. In addition to a perfect beach holiday, you will have the opportunity to discover the beauty of the fantastic island and its friendly people. I also think I had my best cocktails ever in the beautiful beach bar...

Pemba island, away from western life, Manta resort hits the spot, there are no false promises about Manta Resort, it is easy going, peaceful, food is fresh, local and delivered by staff who care about you. Easy to loose track of the days not just the hours, it is a resort that blends the need for holidays and relaxation with continuation of local life around and as part of your time. The diving is very good, take time to look at very vibrant corals, satisfying mixture of large palegic life and colourful macro means the diving rewards you if you look.
