What a wonderful stay! I really cannot understand the previous review - it sounds like they were staying somewhere completely different to the rest of us! The hotel staff are all lovely and very helpful, plus the food was great (my girlfriend doesn't eat any seafood either and she enjoyed a different meal every night). The little private beach is beautiful and even has a jetty that stretches out into the sea which is great for a romantic evening walk. They also have kayak's that are free to borrow which was another nice touch. I honestly don't have a single complaint to make about our stay at Mbweni and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing break in a beautiful setting.

Good location, a bit remote, great rooms, good food. A really nice place to stay when you are in Zansibar. Go to town or around the island during daytime, relax at late afternoon and evening in the swimming pool or the restaurant.

We stayed at Mbweni Ruins Hotel as part of a package deal with Adventure Camps. We weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. We had a room with a lovely deck overlooking the small beach. The a/c worked well, the beds were comfortable, ant the rooms were clean. I think the word that describes this hotel is charming. If you are looking for 5 star elegance this is not it. But if you are looking for a quiet relaxing hotel, then this is the right place. While the restaurant menu is not extensive, it is good and you can't beat the view-the sunset every night was amazing. The management arranged tours of the spice plantations and Stone Town which were good. And I liked the dogs. They were well behaved and made me miss my own.

This place is absolutely great. We had a room by the beach and it was absolutely stunning. Quiet, overlooking some small mangroves on the shore. Nice restaraunt, wireless internet in lobby and online computer for use in lobby. Rooms simple but clean. They are not five star rooms but the location absolutely makes up for that. We were lucky with a top floor room with balcony on beach front overlooking what can only be described as paradise. If you are thinking of just a couple of days here then think about extending it to a few more. It is brilliant!! $10 cab ride to stonetown. Fixed price. Honestly you can do stonetown in a day or day and a half but hanging by the idylic beach at this hotel for a day or two is a MUST!!!
