Musangano Lodge offers its guests a fine range of exciting outdoor activities, from swimming and games, nature walks and birdwatching, to hiking and biking or day trips to some of the special attractions of the Eastern Highlands. The resort is situated in natural woodland 20km west of the little border town Mutare, 1 000 metres above sea level and at the foot of a range of hills which rise behind it to 1 240 metres. It is a great place to spend a family holiday. The big swimming pool has an adjacent safe paddling section for children. It is surrounded by a large sunbathing area with gazebos, offering shady spots from which to watch the children splashing in the the pool. Nearby there is an exciting Robinson adventure playground and wide expanses of lawn where the kids can romp around or play games such as badminton, table tennis or volley-ball. Nature Trails and Hiking Trails The natural woody vegetation around Musangano Lodge is known as Miombo woodland. There are three colour-marked nature and hiking trails on the 140 hectare property. The VALLEY WALK takes you over fairly level ground behind the Lodge along a seasonal stream. The SECRET VALLEY TRAIL leads up past the Lodge's water reservoir and from there via a high point with lovely views back down along a pretty hidden valley where clusters of aloes flower during the winter months. The SUMMIT TRAIL first crosses a stretch of seasonally wet grassland before ascending towards the summit of the ridge to the south of the Lodge. From the top the hiker enjoys all-round views towards ragged mountain chains dozens of miles away. When early morning mists cover the valleys or when the sun sets in a cloud-studded sky, there is pure magic in the air. Bike Routes and Mountain Bike Trails We have identified several biking routes, varying from 10 to 65 kilometers in length. The main bike route takes riders towards the Nyanga Highlands and can be covered in 3 hours. Mountain bike trails vary from 10 to 28km in length, the shortest one being eminently suitable for children and beginners. Places of Interest Nearby Musangano Lodge is well placed for day visits to a number of interesting Eastern Highlands attractions, such as rock art sites, the nearby Osborne Dam, the border town of Mutare, and the magnificent Bvumba Mountains. Furthermore, visitors can explore the Nyanga downs and montane forests with its crystalline mountain streams and many prehistoric dry-stone structures.Musangano Lodge - Zimbabwe Mutare Accommodation
