The Rhino Walking Safaris operate in a concession, roughly 10km North East of Skukuza Rest Camp, which shares a 15km unfenced boundary with Mala Mala in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The concession has a large diversity of fauna and flora and comprises of environmentally sensitive areas previously unexplored – an ideal setting for wilderness walking safaris in an internationally renowned Big Five area. Situated in the heart of the wilderness concession, the Plains Camp overlooks the spectacular Timbitene Plain and waterhole. The elevated Sleep Out platforms are located within the concession, approximately 90mins walk from Plains Camp. You can find all the comforts of home in the furnished African style tents, which have en-suite bathrooms with running hot water. Together with the African wilderness on your doorstep, it makes the perfect combination for a relaxing getaway. Built in authentic pioneer tradition, it has the serenity of a 19th century naturalists rest, nestled in an Acacia Knobthorn thicket. Sleep Out guests arrive on foot at the platforms in the early evening carrying a light weight rucksack containing a change of clothes and refreshments. After arriving and choosing their platform, sundowners are enjoyed overlooking a waterhole. A traditional braai is then prepared by a guide for the evening.

Area Attractions

Rhino Walking Safaris also has exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Parks public roads for evening game drives, well after gate closing times (sunset), ensuring guests an unforgettable experience. The morning activity at Plains Camp will always be a safari walk, and the afternoon activity will be either a safari walk or game drive (if all the guests request it). Only one afternoon activity will be carried out at any one time as activities are planned ahead of guests? arrival to ensure there is no confusion. The Trails To ensure a varying and complete concession experience we suggest that guests participate in a trail that encompasses all three experiences, Rhino Post Safari Lodge, Plains Camp (primarily walking) and Sleep Outs, as each is unique. There are several trails available, all of which cater for every possibility; be it one camp, two camps or all three. Suggested trails are: 3 night trail 1 night Rhino Post 2 nights Plains Camp 4 night trail 2 nights Rhino Post 2 nights Plains Camp 5 night 2 nights Rhino Post 3 nights Plains Camp (with 1 night Sleep Out)

Rates exclude: selected drinks, Gate Entrance Fees, Park Fees, all items of a personal nature
Sleep Outs are an extra activity and are at no extra cost - prior arrangement is required. Plains Camp - no minimum required for a sleep out, however if the first guest to reserve their trail requests a sleep out, then all subsequent reservations will be required to participate.

Park Fees:
R62.00 per person per stay - drive in guests
R91.00 per person per stay - fly in guests
Kruger National Park Fees are per person per visit regardless of the number of nights stay, but subject to change by South African National Parks. Flying in and out of the Park is R91.00 on arrival and R0.00 on departure, but if a guest arrives by road, and departs by air both drive in guest fee and fly in guest fee will be applicable. Park Fees are subject to change without prior notice.
