Game Drives Africa's game abounds in the area and each day brings something different, as you explore the endless fascination of Africa's wildlife in an open Game viewer. Whether it is a leopard on the hunt, giraffes and their babies, zebra and wildebeest grazing together on the open planes or a kudu chewing on some tasty leaves, each viewing will enthrall. Walking Safaris Walking will allow you to discover some of the endless fascinating, smaller creatures of Africa. Coming across an attractively marked Leopard Tortoise, watching a fascinating Rhino Beetle or a stunning plumed Lilac Breasted Roller, are just a few of the amazing encounters awaiting you. Mountain Biking and Trail Running An exciting activity offered by Sabella, this challenging mountain bike trail; it has enough ups and downs, sand and rocks to give you the extreme challenge you are looking for. 3 trails cover both wide single track and double track in an area that is perfectly sculpted for mountain biking and trail running. Sabella also hosts an annual MTB race towards the end April which is open to the public. Guests participate free of charge; and we encourage MTB teams to train there together for team challenges. Boma Dinners For a more traditional dining experience, our guests may enjoy a traditional Boma Dinner. After the evening game drive, guests will be drawn to the essence of a burning fire. The hurricane lamp lit "dining room" under African skies, and a feast of delicious cuisine intensify your senses. Golf at Sabella The 36-par, 9-hole professionally designed Sabella Golf Course is currently under development, specifically designed to blend in with the surroundings, providing sophisticated leisure amenities in an undisturbed natural environment. An absolute treasure for golfers who appreciate nature in the most spectacular surroundings. Wildlife Photography Passionate photographers will benefit from the experience of wild life photography from our talented rangers who are are avid fans of photography, many of them having entered competitions with great results. Our rangers will be happy to assist in any way they can. Birding Safaris The area is a haven for avid birders with over 350 species of African birds including rare sightings such as the uncommon yellow Crimson-breasted shrike. During game drives and bushwalks, our guides will delight in pointing them out. The world-renowned Nylsvley bird sanctuary is in relative close proximity to Sabella and a must visit for enthusiastic birdwatchers. Nylsvley Nature Reserve is a 40km2 protected area in the seasonal Nyl – and Mogalakwena River flood plain. It boasts over 370 species of birds, of which 100 species are water fowl. During the peak flood season over 80 000 birds can be viewed in the reserve. Guests can visit the Nylsvley Reserve on a self-drive basis, or we can arrange a half day excursion from the lodge.
