The Mangrove Forest and Dhow Trip The day begins with a leisurely cruise around the mangroves in a traditional Swahili Dhow where the guides will show the guests some of the abundant marine and wildlife thriving in these forests. After the visit to the mangroves the guests are instructed on how to hand line fish as it has been done on the island for hundreds of years. This is just one small way that the reefs and marine life are preserved on the island as there is no trolling, dynamiting or mass fishing. The boats do not anchor but rather drift with the currents whilst the guests fish. The guest’s catch is then brought back to the hotel and after a short meeting with our chef, prepared for their dinner that evening. A visit to our local village of Bwejuu Guests pay $20 for the trip and Baraza provides the transport and tour free of charge with all proceeds going to our charity Baraza for Bwejuu. Our guests have the opportunity to visit the local school, dispensary, mosque have a soda in the village and take a walk through a typical Zanzibari fishing village. All the proceeds of this trip go to our charity Baraza for Bwejuu which is engaged in giving back to the village. (Please see what this charity has done in the section sustainability). Reef Safari At low tide, guests are able to go for a reef safari where you take a walk out to our coral reef and see the spectacular marine life. Guests will be accompanied by a member of staff out on the coral shelf in front of the hotel and will point out many of the juvenile fish that seek refuge in the shallow waters at low tide. The guests will listen to how the coral itself is vital to the island and its inhabitants as well as information about the sea life they encounter. World Renowned Diving The Zanzibar Archipelago features some of the best diving in the world and Baraza offers diving with the only National Geographic affiliated Diving Center in Zanzibar. Turtle Rescue Program The Rising Sun which is based in Baraza founded a very successful Turtle Rescue program to discourage local capture of turtles where they pay local fishermen to bring live turtles to our beach. They are then and marked and released back in the ocean. Stone Town Baraza organizes Educational visits to The World Heritage site of Stone Town, viewing of historic Spice Plantations, the slave chambers, Maruhubi baths and Prison Island on the island of Zanzibar. Jozani Forest 25 minutes away is the Jozani Forest: home to the Red Colobus Monkey which is indigenous to Zanzibar and only found on the island. The Palms Resort Reviews

Did a week in the bush chasing wild beasts, and flew to the Palms a little worried that the resort would not be what we were hoping for. Wrong! What a wonderful property, staff and setting. We could not have asked for more. The service was generally off the chart, they need to work on the bar staff and their understanding of western ways, but that aside, all was wonderful. Could not believe the music they brought in for dinners, at times we thought we were in the African Queen show, with music from that era. housekeeping was perfect, staff great, and if there is any way you can enjoy this property, go for it.

If you happen to go to Zanzibar island there are quite a few nice places but one of them is certainly "The Palms"-bedded in between their sister hotels "Breezes Beach Club" and "Baraza" we fell in love with the smallest and cosiest of them. The beach is one of the best we've been so far (and there have been many nice ones!) if you like it natural and unspoiled. The food is terrific, the wines & cocktails were fine indeed and the people are very special! Thanks again to Siriuk for his kind hospitality!

Phenomenal service, beautiful hotel - there is not a single criticism I could give the Palms. From the delicious, made to order, breakfast to the sundown cocktail brought to your villa, the Palms thought of everything to make our holiday as memorable as possible. For the more active members of my party, there was windsurfing, scuba diving, dolphin boat tours and countless beach activities. For those of us wanting to escape London and truly relax, the huts on the edge of the sea offered stunning views and the perfect amount of breeze... this combined with the incredibly friendly staff bringing you water, smoothies and chilled towels and the hotel spa offering sleep-inducing massages, every stress you have is washed away. The Palms creates an unforgettable holiday and is, without a doubt, the closest I have been to paradise.

We stayed here for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon and loved it! Everything about this place is fantastic. The villas are lovely and each have a private banda on the beach which is great. The service is fantastic - so friendly and personal, they really couldn't do enough for you. The food was also excellent, the only criticism is that there was a bit too much of it and we often had to skip courses! The sundowner cocktails are also a really nice touch. On our last night, we had a private dinner on the beach which was just perfect and one of the best moments of our honeymoon. We were really sad to leave this place and will definitely return. Great for a romantic holiday or honeymoon!
