Title: Very Good Indeed - The Residence Hotel
Title: Exotic and More in Zanzibar
Just the name "Zanzibar" conjures up visions of Arabian nights, the scent of spices and intrigues behind elaborate carved doors. The island is also associated with the cruel history of the African slave trade. The Residence Zanzibar is a luxurious, modern retreat with excellent friendly local staff and good food. We were two friends travelling and had a glorious few days at The Residence. It was the perfect, relaxing but stimulating start to our holiday. A lamp-lit dinner on the beach was a highlight for us all. The hotel organised a guide and driver for a day trip to Stone Town so we could learn more about its sad history of the slave market and wonder the colorful alleyways and markets for a little shopping.
Title: Great Place to Unwind in Zanzibar
The Residence is quite secluded and quite far from everything. You can arrange activities with the hotel or private tour groups as there is plenty to do on the island of Zanzibar. The rooms are 5 star, they are well appointed and huge. They all come with a private pool. There is a lounge area with a room adjoining which has a huge bathroom. The pool and private deck are excellent. The pools are a decent length and depth. The bed is very comfortable. The hotel grounds are nice and they give you bicycles to ride around the grounds. I was happy to go on foot everywhere and nothing is more than a 5-10 min walk at most. The main pool area is really nice and the pool itself is huge. The food offered plenty of variety so you're bound to find something to your liking irrespective of diet you may be on. The beach is a public beach, however it is nice and yes the tide does go out. It is quite picturesque when the tide is in. Sunsets are a joy from the main pool/deck area. The service levels are excellent, they are all quite attentive and hell bent on ensuring you have a leisurely stay. If you are thinking about this hotel and can get a decent rate, I would certainly book it.
Title: A Great Hotel for a Romantic Vacation
We were looking for a romantic and relaxing vacation. We booked our accommodation at The Residence and was impressed by the big beautiful room and the private pool. The room and pool are surrounded with flora so it really gave a feeling of privacy. Also the location is a bit isolated which was ideal for us. It was quiet and beautiful, the beach is beautiful as well and also the big public pool. The Staff are also very friendly. The seafood was excellent. You can swim in the sea at high tide in the early morning and at sunset. Usually I don't want to return to places I already visited, but I definitely want to come back to The Residence in Zanzibar.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Residence. It is definitely 5 star and stands comparison with top resort hotels in other parts of the world. Our beach front villa with private pool was unusually spacious and extremely well appointed. The central facilities were excellent and the bar and dining area were very comfortable. The food was pleasant and served with a smile. All the staff were friendly, helpful and obviously well trained. The highlight of our stay was the wonderfully well organised barbecues on the beach. Sea swimming is only at high tide but the beautiful pool makes up for this. Overall, our time was well worth it!
