The Stanley Safari Lodge

DestinationVictoria Falls
The Stanley Safari Lodge is a classy African inspired lodge situated on a hill overlooking the Zambezi River, and a mere stone’s throw from the Victoria Falls. Easily accessible by a good tarmac road, followed by a stretch on a fairly decent dirt road, the lodge is close to both the Livingstone (15 minutes) and Victoria Falls airports (45 minutes). Its excellent air and road connections make Stanley Safari Lodge the ideal starting point for safaris into Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia – although once you’ve seen this place you’ll find it hard to leave. The lodge offers a great balance between bush safari style and colonial charm. Its ten thatched chalets are divided into four open-sided chalets that look out onto the beautiful surrounds, and six enclosed chalets that have great big windows, and their own unique features. Each chalet has its own dining area where you can enjoy the restaurant’s delicious French ‘a la African twist’ dishes. Four of the chalets have beautiful plunge pools – some practically inside the room! One of the best parts of Stanley’s (apart from the fabulous rooms), is the nearby watering hole. The property borders on the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park and from the hilltop you can watch elephants play and go about their business, blissfully unaware of your presence – simply amazing.

Area Attractions

Accomodation at the Stanley Safari Lodge The Stanley Safari lodge has ten uniquely individual private cottages. Four of these were designed in an open safari style and six in an enclosed colonial style. The open-sided rooms are fitted out with natural materials and beautiful rock structures and offer a truly bohemian atmosphere where you practically feel part of the African environment. The fittings in the rooms are quite exceptional – from the dining areas built out of rock to the custom-built seating areas by the pools, to the pools themselves. The en-suite bathrooms have beautiful bath tubs and twin basins that complement the unique design of each room. African inspiration is clearly visible throughout the open-sided chalets, and it makes for true untamed luxury. The enclosed colonial cottages are completely different – but also fabulous in their own way. They offer the epitome of luxury and have beautiful indoor baths that look out onto the green surrounds. The chalet options include eight double, one family and one honeymoon suite. The rooms have their own secluded gardens and dining areas overlooking the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, the Zambezi River and the Victoria Falls – and most importantly – the elephants’ waterhole. All the rooms are fitted with four-poster beds, mosquito nets, mahogany furniture and eye-catching tableware. Four of the double suites have beautiful plunge pools. The colonially inspired family suite is enclosed and has its own private garden, fireplace and splash pool. It also has a comfortable lounge for unwinding after a hot day outdoors. It is larger than the doubles – with an extra twin bedded room - and therefore ideal for families. Apart from all the luxuries that the other chalets offer, the honeymoon suite also has its own fireplace and an unusual double shower. This is the most romantic of the chalets and perfect for newlyweds. Dining at the Stanley Safari Lodge Stanley Safari Lodge is known for its delicious French cuisine with an African twist. Your meals can be enjoyed at the restaurant in the main house of the property, under the stars on the lawn, or in the privacy of your own chalet – each with its own dining area. Meals can be ordered from a good set menu. The service is great and the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. Guests have the option of eating together at one big table, or keeping to themselves with no pressure from the staff. Something we found really great was the lodge’s downstairs wine cellar. The only one of its kind in the country – the cellar not only offers exceptional Southern African wines, but it can also be used as a romantic venue for a dinner for two. We really liked this option! Breakfast is served on the upstairs deck where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the green surrounds and the spray from the Victoria Falls. There is also a well stocked bar and a beautifully decorated African-inspired lounge – ideal for enjoying a sundowner or two. All meals and drinks are included in the fare (except imported beverages) and coffee and tea is served in the afternoons.
